 Bill of Rights

Overview

In the last unit, we carefully looked at the Constitution and it's significance in structuring our nation.

In this unit, we will look at that document again. However, this time we will look at the first ten amendments to that document: the Bill of Rights. Although there is no official "Bill of Rights" but rather amendments, you will be able to understand the basic functions of these rights and how they apply to your everyday life.

 Introduction

In this session, you will...

  • Take notes on the Bill of Rights and locate them on your constitution handout
  • Play a Bill of Rights game
  • Evaluate situations that violate the Bill of Rights

Bill of Rights Notes

Carefully read the Bill of Rights Powerpoint and think about the significance of this document to your daily life. Take notes using this template.

My suggestion? Print the blank document and WRITE your notes by hand. (Studies have shown that a students' understanding of the readings increase significantly when doing it this way). My inbox is located in room 317.

Before viewing, you may want to watch this tutorial on completing a notetaking assignment.

Click on "Cornell Notes" for an example of how to take them.

Cornell Notes Grading Rubric :

  • Does not the standard = At least one section appears incomplete
  • Meets the standard= Sections appear complete
  • Mastered the standard = All sections appear complete and thorough

Bill of Rights Game

Read: Use your U.S. Constitution handout to assist you with this game.

Respond:

  • Click on the Bill of Rights Game website:
  • Select the "Secondary Level" and answer yes or no to the eight questions and identify the proper amendment.
  • You must receive a score of 2 minutes or less to be finished with the assignment.
  • Once you have completed the game in less than 2 minutes, take a screenshot of your "Certificate of Completion."
  • The certificate of completion will show the amount of time the game was completed in. (Incorrect answers add one minute to the completion time).

Here is a tutorial on taking screen shots of your quiz results to submit to your teacher:
Normally, you press the button 'print screen' (next to F12) and you go to a Word doc and click paste (or Ctrl+v). You can cut out the parts you don't want. Pressing ALT + Print Scrn takes only the active window

Submit your work as a Word Document via your Brady Gmail account.
