My Responsibilities as a Citizen
Overview
In the last unit, we looked at defining the characteristics of citizenship. In this second session, you will understand how citizens can fulfill their responsibilities. You will also explore how government should serve the purposes for which it was created.

In this session, you will...
Understand your rights and responsibilities as a citizen by completing a research project
Citizenship Responsibilities Project
Prepare a presentation on citizenship rights and responsibilities for foreign nationals wishing to become U.S. citizens.
This project may take several class sessions to complete and you will be required to bring this project to your teacher in person.
What you will do:
- Research citizen rights and responsibilities
- Identify and present the key rights or responsibilities
- Assess the importance of understanding a citizen's rights and responsibilities
You will need supplies for visual displays: posterboard, markers, overhead projector sheets and pens, or multimedia authoring software (Hyperstudio or PowerPoint)

The steps to follow:
- Review the citizenship tests at the suggested web sites to learn what types of questions are asked on the citizenship exam.
- Create a list and an explanation of the specific rights or responsibilities involved.
- Respond to the following question: "Of all of the civic rights and responsibilities, which is the most important for new citizens to understand and which is the most difficult to understand?" Your response must be word-processed. Submit your work as a Word Document via your Brady Gmail account
- Create a visual display that clearly and memorably portrays each right or responsibility with images and text.
- Present your display to your teacher.
